A Day in the Life

The Sr Director - Value Stream in CRM Operations will play a critical role in leading and supporting day to day problem solving, cost down, continuity, and new product development intersections for the end-to-end value stream of a critical product line within CRM. The person in this role will lead a cross functional team with functional representation from both OU and GO&SC functions. The person in this role will report to the CRM Operations Vice President. The Sr Director - Value Stream will be responsible for effectively coordinating total product end-to-end processes from supplier to customer.

Key deliverables are increased and improved value stream stability, increased and improved product availability, reduce and eliminate supplier and continuity risks, manage and mitigate multiple project overlap and constraints to speed implementation and reduce cost, and deliver material cost savings to the product line. The person in this position will harness the power of the Medtronic Performance System to drive information and decision-making across the organization and empowering teams to move with a sense of urgency to deliver quality product to our patients.

There are 2 openings for this position. One will focus on Orion in the Cardiac Pacing Therapy Business (CPT). The other will focus on Polaris in the Defibrillation Solutions Business (DS).

This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Create and monitor end to end value stream view that includes inventory, service, inventory, flow, and continuity from the supplier to the customer globally. 
  • Implement and lead a Tier 5 meeting that connects suppliers, vertically integrated sites, production facilities, distribution centers, field, and customers to stabilize the value stream by proactively solving problems.
  • Member of CRM Operations Unit Senior Staff to ensure prioritization, strong execution, and problem solving across the manufacturing (internal and external) network.
  • Coordinate and partner with CPT and DS Operations Leaders to ensure updates, data sharing, problem solving and communication through Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and Sales & Operations Execution (S&OE) processes.
  • Work with sites, Release Product Management (RPM), Value Add/ Value Engineering (VAVE), Supplier Change Requests (SCR), and New Product Development teams to coordinate and prioritize projects as well as create and implement new projects to stabilize product supply and deliver cost down.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across various functions as the key interface with, and advocate for, all groups contributing to the CRM Manufacturing network and OU customer end-to-end value stream, throughout product life cycle and customer interaction points.
  • Additional special projects as opportunities arise.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 15+ (13+ with advanced degree) years leading and managing the execution of programs and processes, in engineering, manufacturing, or operations.
  • 10+ years managerial experience, people or programs

Nice to Have: 

  • Master’s degree in engineering and or an MBA
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma Certification or Design for Reliability and Manufacturability Certification
  • Experience leading Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, or other Operations functions
  • Previous Medtronic experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding of product design, manufacturing, supply chain and distribution processes
  • 15 or more years of related broad operations leadership/management on a global scale
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and resolve critical complex and systemic problems
  • Demonstrated leadership of senior people and complex projects, with a strong track record of success working within a global and complex matrix organization.
  • Based in Minneapolis and able to come into the office 3 days per week on average.
