This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for Materials & Processes tasks related to Metallic Additive Manufacturing for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of material characterization, supporting design for producibility, and component qualification.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead tactical and strategic efforts within a cross-functional Materials & Processes team to support Additive Manufacturing efforts and hardware within Blue Origin’s world class in-house facilities.
  • Develop Additive Manufacturing processes, parameters, requirements, and specifications for existing and novel metallic materials.
  • Lead test campaigns designing, collecting and analyzing material properties data for in-house produced Additively Manufactured metallic materials and Engines hardware.
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to implement requirements in all phases of AM coupled with robust production solutions and design for manufacture.
  • Execute root cause and corrective actions efforts AM builds. 
  • Optimize and production harden AM processes to increase throughput and decrease variability.
  • Contribute to the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in material science/engineering or related field and 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Principle investigator in process development and optimization of metallic Additive Manufacturing processes.
  • Hands on experience measuring, analyzing, developing, characterizing Additive Manufacturing of nickel (e.g. Inconel), aluminum, and copper alloys.
  • Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets.
  • Experience with powder metallurgy.
  • Hands on skills with SEM, EDS, EBSD, IGF, PSD measurements, XRF, ICP, and OES.
  • Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials.
  • Proven experience developing and executing experimental plans, analyzing data and concisely reporting the results.
  • Strong written and personal computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and analyzing room temperature, cryogenic, and elevated temperature mechanical testing
  • Failure and Forensic Analysis experience
  • Experience with statistical analysis and preparation of design allowables


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $96,310.00-$134,833.65
