Role Overview

Are you passionate about Jewish student engagement and community? Hillel at the University of Rochester seeks an enthusiastic and innovative Assistant Director to lead student engagement and foster an inclusive, vibrant Jewish campus community. Be part of a small but mighty Hillel with a lot of room for independent ownership and vision.  In this role you'll empower students to explore their Jewish identity, create meaningful experiences, and develop a lifelong connection to Jewish life.

What You’ll Do

• Be the leading voice of Jewish student engagement, owning the development and execution of a strategy to build authentic relationships with students, and fostering a welcoming and pluralistic environment that celebrates diverse Jewish experiences and identities. 
• Supervise the Ezra Springboard Jewish Education Fellow.  Mentor student leaders and interns, and grow opportunities for student leadership.
• Develop and implement programming, including Shabbat and holiday celebrations, social gatherings and outings, civic and service engagement initiatives, and outreach.
• Facilitate Jewish learning cohorts with provided materials; Preferred ability to lead services for Friday night Shabbat, Shabbat blessings, and Havdalah.
• Support Israel-related programming, including special programs and trips such as Birthright Israel.
• Craft and implement a strategy for social media engagement and capture event photos for storytelling and outreach.

• Comfort working independently in a hybrid model, and as part of a small but mighty team where everyone helps with basic administrative tasks, marketing, program details, and also food prep and service as part of programs, learning cohorts, and Shabbat.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

• 3+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably in campus-based Hillel work, and a bachelor’s degree.
• A working knowledge of Jewish holidays, culture, traditions, rituals, and modern Jewish life, and a deep commitment to pluralism and Jewish diversity.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills, strong oral and written communication, and great attention to detail.
• A track record of successfully planning and executing events; Ability to successfully juggle multiple responsibilities and projects, from conception through execution, with a proactive approach.
• Proficiency in social media (particularly Instagram) and marketing tools, along with the ability to take engaging photos for outreach and fundraising purposes.

What You’ll Receive

• A salaried, exempt position with an estimated salary of $70-85k, depending on experience. 
• A flexible, hybrid work schedule during the semesters; the ability to work remotely during parts of school breaks and during the summers; the ability to take time extended time off during the summer season for travel, to work at a camp, etc. if desired
