Penguin Random House Audio seeks an Assistant Acquisitions Editor to join the team. Reporting to the Senior Editor, this will be an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Editor to join the fastest-growing publishing segment, and work closely with audio team and will provide a view into the dynamics of the audiobooks industry and publishing trends overall.

As the premier publisher in the audiobook industry, with nearly 20,000 titles in our wide-ranging catalog, we are dedicated to producing top-quality fiction and nonfiction audiobooks written and read by the best in the business, including, Riley Sager, Fiona Davis, Nedra Glover Tawwab, and John Sandford.
In Audio, the Assistant Acquisitions Editor acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and the many different departments within the publishing group. Daily responsibilities include all-around project support for the print editors, proposal/manuscript reading and submission management, and brainstorming creative publishing approaches and solutions to help authors/books through the publication process.
Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and enjoys reading broadly and often. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to step back, consider the big picture, and adjust your strategy when needed, you'll assume greater editorial responsibilities over time.
This is a hybrid position with occasional in-office responsibilities, which will include but not be limited to in-person team meetings. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The Role:
- Working alongside a senior editor to manage an assigned list of publishers and acquiring audio rights from Penguin imprints, agents, and out-of-house publishers
- Serving as a primary point of contact for editors, publishers, and the subsidiary rights teams
- Negotiating author narration fees with agents and authors
- Liaising with print teams on text and image permissions for audio programs
- Identifying new audio opportunities for backlist titles
- Receiving and considering submissions, negotiating fees and contract terms with agents
- Fielding questions from our content creators regarding audiobook publications
- Staying on top of current trends within the industry
The Essentials:
- 1-2 years of publishing or project management experience
- Genuine interest in the audiobook industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, problem-solve and to know when to escalate
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneDrive)
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Strong organizational skills
The salary for this position is $53,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
