Occ Summary
A ssume responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned patientsunder the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in patient carearea. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordancewith th e scope of the LPN as defined by the North Carolina Board ofNursing.
Work Performed
Provide and document direct nursing care ofassigned patients under thesupervision of a registered nurse or physic ian. Nursing care is guidedby the physician orders and the nursing plan ofcare. Patient responseto care is reported to a registered nurse for ev aluation, interventionand modification of the plan of care. Assist other health care personnelin the delivery of patient care.Assist physicians a nd other nursing personnel in the performance ofvarious diagnostic proce dures.Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and pati entresponses; assist in the delivery of nursing care and selection ofnur sing priorities.Assist in the development and implementation of generalp olicies andprocedures to provide for the emotional and physical comforta nd safetyof patients; participate in the formulation of new policies.Par ticipate in maintaining the environment of care including equipmentandot her material resources.Participate in the identification of clinicalor o perational performanceimprovement opportunities and assists in performan ce improvementactivities.Assist withcontrol of material resources and m aintenance; assist inappraisal of effectiveness of material and equipmen t and report anyequipment malfunctions to charge nurse.Participate in in -service education programs and other conferenceswithin the service.Assi st in the training of new employees.Perform other related duties inciden tal to the work described herein.

Knowledge of scope of licensed practical nurse, abilityto de legate tonursing support staff.Considerable knowledge of the careand treatment of patients and specialprocedures that apply to practicaly.Able t o communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors,healthcanursing. Able to independently seekout resources and work collaborativelre team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.Able to teachpatients and families in accordance withthe nursing planof care.Able to use sen sory and cognitive functions to process and prioritizeinformation, treat ment, and follow-up.Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life suppo rtrequirementsdesignated by work area or organization.Able touse fine m otor skills.
