The mission of the Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services (ODLSS) is to provide high-quality and specially designed instructional supports and services for all diverse learners within their least restrictive environment. We work collaboratively with several units, specifically schools and Networks with the goal of improving the academic achievement of all diverse learners by ensuring diverse learners receive meaningful and relevant access to grade-level core instruction within their neighborhood school, school of choice, or the school closest to their residence.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Visual Impairment Supports, the Braille Transcriber will be responsible for duties in connection with transcribing and reproducing instructional materials in braille, large print, and audio formats and will perform additional duties as required. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, that will be paid for hours worked on an hourly basis.
The Braille Transcriber will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Use formatting skills to convert / correct scanned materials into the appropriate and correct braille format
- Adapt maps, charts, graphs, images, and all graphics into tactile representations
- Receive and review requests from educational staff for instructional materials to be transcribed to and from braille, print, and audio formats
- Operate tools such as a braille writer, braille embosser, scanner, and computer with braille translation software
