TITLE:                   Vehicle Maintenance Foreperson

LOCATION:          Snowbird Resort, Gad Valley Maintenance Garage

STATUS:               Hourly, Full-time, Year-round

SCHEDULE:          Full-time; schedule dependent on business levels

SUMMARY

As the Vehicle Maintenance Foreperson, you will assist the Vehicle Maintenance Manager in overseeing daily operations of the vehicle maintenance shop. This role supports hiring, training, supervision, and ongoing development of staff while helping manage budgets, inventory, and shop performance to ensure safe, efficient, and timely vehicle maintenance.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Prioritize, plan, and supervise daily workloads for 7–8 mechanics.
  • Assign work and inspect completed tasks to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide respectful, timely communication and feedback.
  • Train new mechanics and support team development through coaching, rewards, and recognition as appropriate.
  • Lead weekly safety and service meetings.
  • Assist with resolving internal service issues.
  • Manage, track, and analyze departmental budget usage.
  • Oversee staff scheduling and manage work hours.
  • Perform duties of a Vehicle Maintenance Craftsman or higher-level role, as needed.
  • Implement and monitor performance measurement systems.
  • Ensure all work is accurately documented and recorded.
  • File and follow up on warranty claims.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment as needed.
  • Responsibly dispose of all waste products in accordance with regulations and policy.
  • Follow all federal, state, and Snowbird policies and safety procedures, while helping implement and reinforce safe work practices in the shop.
  • Communicate with department heads to understand operational needs and coordinate service support.
  • Foster a positive shop culture that is supportive, professional, and accountability driven.
  • Manage the motor pool and maintain daily accountability for vehicle condition and damage.
  • Utilize the maintenance tracking system for all work orders; train new mechanics on system use and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of relevant technical experience.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Basic Advanced computer literacy & troubleshooting (maintenance program & vehicle computer systems).
  • A current CDL license is preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate on-mountain vehicles: snowmobiles, snowcats, heavy equipment, side-by-sides, trucks, etc. in a safe manner, following all safety processes & procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of relevant technical or vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including maintenance software and vehicle computer systems.
  • Current CDL preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate on-mountain and heavy vehicles, including snowmobiles, snowcats, heavy equipment, side-by-sides, and trucks, while following all safety processes and procedures.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-time, year-round schedule.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight on occasion due to road closures or operational needs.
  • May experience periods of high stress related to business volume, deadlines, public interaction, winter conditions, overnight snow operations, and commuting to and from Snowbird.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, handle, grasp, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to and including 100+ lbs.
  • Work performed in cold weather conditions, often well below freezing, including operation of snowmobiles and other on-mountain vehicles.
