Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Medical Oncology, Breast Tumor Group
Mayo ClinicAbout the role
Medical Oncology is looking to hire a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) into the Breast Oncology Care Team.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with breast cancer.
NPs and PAs are an integral part of cancer care at Mayo Clinic. They see patients at initial consultation in collaboration with an Oncologist. They follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based cancer treatment. They provide care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative and palliative therapies, toxicity management, survivorship care, assessment of disease status, management on clinical trials and end-of-life care.
Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP or PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, strong teamwork, excellent communication and good clinical judgement and assessment skills. The ability to balance cancer treatment with symptom management and provide psychosocial support to patients is key to success in this practice.
The individual NP or PA will work within the focused Breast Oncology Care Team. The Breast group has 5 teams comprising of Consultants, NPs, PAs, RNs, and other allied health. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP or PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams.
Once established clinically, the division and tumor group are very supportive of mentoring NP/PAs in other academic and research pursuits. We strive to see our Advanced Practitioners excel in clinical practice, research, and education.
