SUMMARY OF JOB CONTENT

This position assists the Extrusion Manager and/or Production Manager in planning, directing, and supervising the production and operating activities of the department to assure optimum utilization of manpower, tools, materials, and equipment to produce the greatest quantity and best quality production at the least cost.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Assists with manpower, material, production, and maintenance issues as needed and any other related issues in the department, including but not limited to;

 

• Direction of Supervisors and assures that the activities of the department are performed according to established manufacturing specifications, procedures, and schedules.
• Preparation of work schedules and coordination of production activities so that the department operates in an economical and efficient manner.
• Participation in the training of all department personnel in proper methods, practices, and specifications.
• Interpretation and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Direction of department activities in accordance with strict adherence to established processes and product specifications and assurance that subordinate supervisors do the same.
• Motivating, coaching, disciplining, and directing of subordinate supervisors and bargaining unit hourly employees to ensure sound employee relations and the adherence to policies.
• Improvement recommendations for production methods and processes and implementation of improvements upon proper authorization.
• Promotion and implementation of safety and preventive measures against the occurrence of incidences.
• Administration and enforcement of safety and health programs in accordance with company policies.
• Assurance of Title V environmental regulations compliance.
• Immediate notification of any situation which will interfere with departmental operations.
• Direction of Yard department activities.
• Performance of other duties as required that are in support of the departments and plant’s goals.

   

pREFERRED Knowledge / Skills / Experience

 

• At least a 2-year college degree or equivalent (prefer a 4-year Engineering degree) or equivalent job-related industry experience.    
• Five or more years experience as a first line Supervisor in a carbon products, graphite or ceramics industry (preferably in a union environment).
• Able to prioritize and handle multiple projects or tasks concurrently, on a daily basis.
• Strong supervisory skills, including the ability to direct, coach, motivate, discipline, train, and maintain good communications and employee relations.
• Independent thinker, able to work well without close supervision and make informed/effective decisions.
• Able to perform well within a Team environment.
• As a minimum, training as a Green Belt in Six Sigma methodology (DMAIC or DMADV approach).
• Computer knowledge, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, KRONOS, and SAP programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analysis/critical thinking skills.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, reach with hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to handle or feel.  On occasion the employee will be required to lift up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in an office environment and a loud plant environment. and may be required to periodically travel on business.  The employee will regularly be working near moving mechanical parts, be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions. On occasion, this position will be exposed to high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, or the risk of electrical shock.
