Wisdom Panel is home to the world’s largest and most comprehensive canine and feline genotypic/phenotypic database, and a committed pet parent community passionate about helping us make our next discovery towards improving pet health. We are looking for an experienced Senior Veterinary Genetics Manager to join us as we forge the next chapter in companion animal genetics testing. In this highly collaborative role, you will work across R&D, product, marketing, and operations to lead canine and feline genetic variant curation, genetic test design and validation, and internal and external conversations highlighting the utility of genetic testing across consumer, breeder, and veterinary domains.
This is a Hybrid role, where the ideal candidate will be located near either of our Fountain Valley, CA or Loveland, CO Hubs. The Target Pay Range for this position can be between $143K - $187K annually. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Genetic test development and validation
- Lead curation work with research scientists and bioinformaticians on product development efforts, specifically focused on canine and feline disease and trait associated variants.
- Lead genetic marker design and validation studies.
- Defining and executing on requirements for clinical and analytical validity of genetic tests.
- Define curation protocols and classification criteria for genetic variants.
- Collaborate with laboratory operations and data and software engineering to design, optimize, and automate QC, monitoring, and data review interfaces.
- Liaise with customer service for difficult cases, or requests for review.
- Work across R&D, product, and marketing to evaluate and advise on new product portfolio and/or innovation opportunities.
Clinical and Scientific excellence
- Oversee and direct market support and clinical research studies.
- Prepare and present documentation detailing the technical and clinical validity of Wisdom Panel products to internal and external advisory boards.
- Own internal and external clinical approval processes, including keeping internal stakeholders apprised of timelines, documentation, and resources needed.
- Assist with drafting and submission of peer-reviewed publications focused on the Wisdom Panel DNA data repository and genetic variant discovery.
- Be an ambassador to the veterinary and breeder communities through public lectures, major conference attendance and interaction with key providers.
- Develop and/or review technical content (blog posts, white papers, presentations) targeted at breeders, veterinarians and pet owners
- Work across Mars Petcare Science and Diagnostics to build KOL alliances
- Identify, engage, and develop top KOLs across veterinary medicine and genetics
- Build and execute on a strategy to engage KOLs in clinical studies, speaking engagements, and advisory boards
People management
- Manage 1 direct report and establish contractor resourcing requirements to support awareness and education programs
Education and Experience
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, equivalent) strongly preferred
- Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) strongly preferred
- Masters or PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field with at least 5 years of laboratory experience in an industrial/commercial setting strongly preferred
- Clinical research experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Broad experience in Animal and/or Human Health commercial operations, Regulatory Affairs, and R&D
- Experience in developing and validating genetic diagnostic tests, with specific experience
