Job Description

Associate Director, Fund Operations, Senior Credit

Founded in 1862, John Hancock Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Manulife Financial Corporation, has been providing capital financing solutions for U.S. middle market companies for decades.  In 2000 the Hancock Capital Management team (“HCM”) was established to spearhead these activities.  Today, HCM is known as Manulife Investment Management Private Equity & Credit (“MIM PE&C”) and manages over $25 billion of capital. Within MIM PE&C, the Senior Credit business was established in 2017. Since inception, the Senior Credit team has deployed over $5 billion to PE sponsored middle market companies across North America, with current AUM of $3 billion+.
 

Position Summary

The Associate Director will report directly into the COO of Senior Credit, working within the Senior Credit front office operations team. The Associate Director will work closely with various internal teams, including Loan Operations, Portfolio Managers and Senior Management, to help oversee various aspects of our fund balance sheets. The Associate Director will also oversee all investor and lender reporting as well as performance track record reporting on the Senior Credit portfolio. The ideal candidate for this role should be ambitious, have strong technical skills, and have the ability to lead, collaborate and execute timely action plans.  The Associate Director will be expected to grow a team over time as the Senior Credit business continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee various aspects of the balance sheet for funds managed by the Senior Credit team, including, but not limited to, liability management, liquidity management, and stress testing fund liquidity for potential downside scenarios.
  • Help determine fund leverage needs and advise on available financing solutions.
  • Stay on top of the financing market by maintaining strong relationships with top tier banks.
  • Negotiate, execute, implement, and manage various lines of credit for Senior Credit funds, including ABL facilities and subscription lines. This includes managing all reporting requirements within each respective credit agreement.
  • Oversee and maintain borrowing bases for various leverage facilities. Work with lenders to borrow and repay capital as needed.
  • Own asset approval process with lenders, coordinating with Loan Operations and Underwriters to ensure lenders have all the information they need to grant approval so that access to financing is available when needed.
  • Routinely communicate with lenders on deal performance, borrowing base changes, and covenant calculations.
  • Manage all routine (monthly and quarterly) LP and lender reporting packages, working closely with various internal teams to compile all necessary information to produce and disseminate by target reporting dates.
  • Own and oversee the Senior Credit track record and various other platform statistics/reporting.
  • Manage lender, trustee, and other third-party relationships, always ensuring operational readiness.

 Qualifications 

  • BA or BS degree required.
  • 5+ years of credit experience at an alternative asset manager or administrator, preferably working on levered funds.
  • Detailed understanding of leveraged loans, specifically private senior credit, including the underlying market for their origination, assignment, and syndication.
  • Exposure to PowerBI is a plus
  • Candidate must show ability to communicate directly and work effectively in a dynamic work environment, including the ability to interact well with a variety of constituents (portfolio managers, senior management, investment team, lenders, auditors, etc.) 
  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities while also focusing on bringing projects to completion. 
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills and a friendly, service-oriented attitude.
