Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating a uniform approach for Life Safety, site level contractor safety, regulatory compliance, and Industrial Hygiene within Luminant’s safety management system. Directly supporting the Regional Safety Manager and working in a matrix organizational structure, this position will be accountable for the effective/timely integration and standardization of strategic initiatives involving the Emergency Response Teams, Industrial Hygiene, site level contractor safety, regulatory compliance and other projects as assigned, by utilizing strong influencing skills and change management skills to drive continuous safety performance improvement. This support position requires the ability to effectively work with the safety professionals and plant management teams to achieve consistent alignment with Luminant standards across each region. The objective of this position is to advance Luminant’s standardization process in all elements of the safety management system.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

•Responsible for ensuring Luminant complies with all local, state, and federal  laws, rules and standards relating to safety•Helps establish Luminant’s strategic vision for Emergency Response, site level contractor safety, regulatory compliance and Industrial Hygiene.•Program Oversight for all Life Safety Elements, site level contractor safety, regulatory compliance and Industrial Hygiene within Luminant’s Safety Management System•Benchmark other industry segment companies to determine best practices in safety. •Drive a sense of urgency to achieve timely implementation of safety strategies that support each business segment.•Direct the development of formal corporate policies, directives, and procedures as needed in Life Safety, regulatory compliance, site level contractor safety, and Industrial Hygiene.•Provide leadership in working with the various business segment operations directors on defining “Luminant Way” for elements of the safety management system•Challenge conventional thinking, align new technology and strategies at a pace that exceeds our competition and considered to be “world class”.•Successful implementation/sustainability of Life Safety, site level contractor safety, regulatory compliance, and Industrial Hygiene strategies/ programs/ processes that helps to meet or exceed business goals / targets.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

•Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a generalist safety role or progressive power plant experience in occupational safety, business, process engineering •Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills•Broad based knowledge of OSHA regulatory standards pertaining to Life Safety, regulatory compliance, contractor safety, and Industrial Hygiene.•Strong communications and presentation skills required—written and verbal. Good computer skills •Team builder---must demonstrate strong initiative, display independent judgment, and the tenacity to get things done.    •Experience with change management techniques, influencing change while maintaining strong business relationships.•Physically able to perform the essential functions by observing, walking, climbing or bending while conducting essential functions of this job (approximately 25% of time in job performance).•Must be able to travel as required. Required Certified Safety Professional Certification or commit to obtain in two (2) years.
