Job Description

As a Business Development Director, you will be responsible for generating business for marketing research services and software with full-service marketing research firms along with end users of market research. This position will target clients across the Americas and may be located anywhere in North America.  

The Business Development Director, will call on full-service marketing research firms, consultancies, ad agencies and market research departments of consumer goods, online retail and entertainment firms. You will work with the Vice President of Global Sales and other senior staff in creating integrated sales campaigns in coordination with marketing department when appropriate. You will coordinate and run in-person client meetings, responses to RFPs and other sales and marketing initiatives, as well as participate in professional and trade associations, attend conferences and monthly professional meetings to promote the firm’s visibility, establish and manage client relationships, and highlight product opportunities.

Your role will require and challenge you to:

  • Achieve significant sales growth through new customer acquisition, renewals and upselling
  • Demonstrate superior client relationship skills and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate consultative selling experience and ability to build trust based on industry and product knowledge
  • Be organized, motivated and always act in a professional manner
  • Complete weekly pipeline and activity reviews (prospect conversations and online, phone or in-person meetings) and deliver weekly summary to VP of North America
  • Regularly review key prospect sales plans in designated territory and participate in key presentation meetings
  • Properly follow sales process and effectively build pipeline
  • Ensure personal pipeline is sufficient for success
  • Escalate competitive feedback from prospect conversations and RFP dialogue
  • Travel regularly to make on-site sales calls
  • Respond with appropriate urgency to client inquires and RFPs
  • Build prospect relationships with decision makers within prospect organization
  • Build relationships with key influencers in the marketing research to stay current with important business/industry issues
  • Present quarterly to Executive leadership on past quarter performance and upcoming quarterly sales plans with detailed dates and measurable action items
  • Prepare weekly/monthly/quarterly sales reports via Salesforce showing proposed, actual and upcoming forecasts and quotas as compared to budget
  • Review current period forecast changes daily and communicates significant deviations
  • Document activities appropriately in Salesforce.com
  • Communicate effectively with others using appropriate tools to advance business, team and organizational goals
  • Constructively challenge the views of others and influence others in the pursuit of shared objectives
  • Seek input from others and use effective listening skills
  • Accept accountability for decisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (advanced degree a plus)
  • 2-5 years successful track record of direct sales to market researchers (must disclose documented prior sales goals, performance, and earnings during interviewing process)
  • Familiarity with market research software, services and online technologies
  • Track record of winning projects, opening new accounts and consistent
