What is the Americas Accounting group responsible for?

The Americas Accounting group is responsible for assessing and managing regulatory reporting needs, working with independent auditors to address legal entity requests and assembling legal entity independent audited financial statements.   The team evaluates intangible and other investment assets for impairments, assesses capital needs of legal entities, and supports the legal entity businesses to manage their accounting and finance needs.  The group reports to the Chief Accounting Officer.

What is the Principal Accountant responsible for?

  • Prepare and/or review regulatory reporting filings

    • US - FINRA FOCUS reports, Banking Call Reports in several jurisdictions, Dept of Treasury TIC-B, and various Dept of Commerce reports and US Census reports. 

    • Canada – OSC M4 and BCAR, CIRO Form 1, OSFI OCFS, ICAAP, StatsCanada

    • Bahamas/Cayman – SCB, Central Bank of the Bahamas, CIMA

  • Oversee and compile stand-alone audited financials, and work with auditors to fulfil specific audit requests

  • Oversee and coordinate capital transactions with other finance teams (intercompany dividends and capital infusions to subsidiaries)

  • Provide business support, internal reporting and analysis covering several key areas of the business, including Investment Advisory, Business Administration, Broker/Dealer, High Net Worth Wealth Management, Transfer Agency, and Internal Operations

  • Handle other unidentifiable finance requests required by the business

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Principal Accountant?

  • Ensure regulatory reporting is handled in a timely and accurate fashion

  • Respond to requests from auditors and examiners

  • Coordinate effectively with other team members and corporate teams

  • Continually increase understanding of the underlying business of legal entities and work with management teams to address business finance needs

  • Evaluate and improve processes to increase efficiency and accuracy, add value to broader team efforts and align work with corporate initiatives

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • BA required; MA preferred

  • A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience preferred within the financial services/asset management space

  • CPA desirable

  • Sound understanding of US GAAP

  • Prior working knowledge of regulatory reporting

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Willingness to embrace new concepts and techniques

  • FINRA Series 99/27 desirable

  • Advanced Excel skills

We expect the base salary for this position to range between $116,000 - $136,800, depending on level of relevant experience, plus discretionary bonus.
