Description
As an Engineering Manager in the Verily Software team, you will lead a team of full-stack engineers on the Verily Retinal Service team in the delivery of our cloud services supporting Stargazer and ARDA. You will use your strong technical background to champion software development practices in an environment where safety, reliability, and security are critical. As a key member of the Verily Retinal Service technical leadership team, you will help shape the program's technical roadmap, innovations, and product investments. The ideal candidate for this role has hands-on experience in fast paced medical device design and development through to commercial launch.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and grow a team of software engineers developing on backend cloud systems and user-facing applications. Own technical strategy, planning, execution, resourcing and success of complex, mission-critical projects.
- Drive all technical aspects of the development including requirements definition, architecture & design, implementation, integration, and testing.
- Define engineering productivity success metrics for the team and create processes to continuously improve product delivery.
- Support career development for your team through leadership, mentorship and feedback.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in technical leadership of a team of 4-8 people.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience growing and mentoring senior engineers.
- Hands-on programming experience targeting backend services and cloud development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in backend software development with 4 years of hands-on technical leadership of a team of 8+ software engineers.
- Demonstrated expertise in problem solving, decision making and delivery in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience developing applications on Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with AI/ML and/or software-as-medical-devices.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000 - $276,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
