This position will end effective one year from start date. Subsequent annual renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Purpose

We are currently looking for a proactive, experienced Research Technician to support the lab of Dr. Jaime Lopez at the University of Texas at Austin. The Lopez lab has a long-standing interest to unravel how ubiquitin signaling regulates cell death pathways.

The ideal candidate has experience in Protein Biochemistry including but not limited to expression, purification of recombinant proteins from E. coli, yeast, and cell cultures.  The candidate should be well versed in performing protein-protein interaction assays, such as Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), and GST-pulldowns. They should be able to perform gel-electrophoresis (both DNA and protein gels) and Immunoblotting. Candidate will participate in basic molecular cloning (plasmid construction and analyses) and PCR-based mouse genotyping.

Responsibilities

• Protein expression and purification, biochemical assays

• General laboratory maintenance and organization

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree on molecular biology, biology, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry or similar field is required. Exceptional problem solving skills with a solution-oriented attitude. Exceptional organizational skills, prioritization and time management skills. Exceptional ability to be proactive and take action on vital items with a "can-do' demeanor. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in work deliverables. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Ability to remain calm and poised under pressure.Demonstrated experience performing research tasks in molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemistry in academic laboratory is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented experience with enzymes that conjugate linear ubiquitin chain as well as in the ubiquitin-binding domains that recognize them.

Salary Range

$42,228 + depending on qualifications
