You will perform electrical engineering in advanced manufacturing with a focus on the electrical systems design and integration. You will also help lead ORNL’s efforts to become leaders in robotics and intelligent systems for manufacturing through electrical system design.
Purpose
The Department of Energy Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and the Advanced Manufacturing Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are seeking an electrical engineer to conduct projects, expand research, and manage R&D in the development of projects to support the manufacturing R&D portfolio. The specific focus of this job posting is to fill an engineering need in the area of robotics and electrical systems.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
You will:
- Contribute to R&D projects and lead the expansion of R&D in robotics and intelligent systems.
- Lead electrical design and integration efforts toward develop state-of-the-art robotics platforms.
- Lead and manage large technical projects related to advanced manufacturing through electrical systems design.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings for new and existing robotic systems.
- Provide technical field support for installation and troubleshooting systems.
- Interface with other disciplines during the design and commissioning phase of the projects.
- Guide work of and mentor students and interns.
- Comply with ORNL’s environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.
Qualifications Required
Basic Qualifications:
- A BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with a focus on hands-on implementation.
- A minimum of five years of directly relevant engineering experience.
- Knowledge of the technical concepts of electrical engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support team building and leadership are required.
- The demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, scopes, and budgets is required.
- Some activities may require export control and/or national security interests. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree is preferred
- Experience with 3D CAD software packages, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with programming tools such as LabView, MATLAB, ladder logic.
