Job Summary:
The Athletics Department at Marist University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Head Football Performance Coach. This position will report to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. The University is a member of the NCAA and supports 23 Division I athletic programs which compete in The Metro Conference. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Head Football Performance Coach will design strength and conditioning programs for assigned varsity sports teams, monitor student-athlete performance, work with head coaches in setting performance goals, and provide nutritional information. In addition, the coach will monitor weight room fitness equipment and the hiring and managing of interns and other duties assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience
- NSCA CSCS or CSCCa, SCCC certification
- Valid driver's license with no serious convictions
Essential Functions:
Coaching
- Direct and guide daily training sessions with assigned athletic teams in the weight room.
- Teaching the philosophy and techniques of strength and conditioning to student-athletes of assigned sports programs.
- Design and implement rehabilitation plans after carefully assessing a student-athlete’s injury and clearance from Sports Medicine staff.
- Lead Conditioning, Speed, Agility, Quickness sessions on courts or playing field with assigned teams.
Programming
- Design comprehensive year-round training programs for assigned athletic teams including weight room programs, conditioning, speed, agility, and quickness.
Consultation and Communication
- Meet with sport coaches to discuss the physical needs of the team and ways to implement them.
- Meet with specific student-athletes one on one to discuss specific physical goals and develop plan to implement them.
- Regularly update sport coaches on the physical progression of team and specific student-athletes.
- Meet with Sports Medicine staff to discuss certain student-athlete’s return to weight room from injury plan.
- Report any issues with student-athletes, interns, or employees to Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to discuss resolutions.
Professional Development
- Maintain certification through the Nationally Accredited Strength and Conditioning Organization.
- Complete Evidence Based Practice CEU’s.
- Attend in person or virtually various conferences and symposiums to stay up to date with training principles.
- Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, valid for two years.
- Participate in appropriate Department of Athletics activities.
Operational Duties
- Maintain log of broken and non-operational equipment and remove from general use.
- Hire and manage interns, track hours, complete performance reviews, set schedules, etc.
Travel and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Exercise Science or related field
