Job Summary:

Assures the integrity and quality of clinical research trials are maintained under occasional guidance. Plans and implements recruitment procedures, manages enrollment of the trial, and ensures compliance with protocols.

Department Summary:

Our mission is to promote multidisciplinary science and training among investigators across fields and career stages to drive clinically meaningful advances in our understanding of sepsis and critical illness. The major focus of this laboratory is to define mechanisms of lung and other organ injury in critical illnesses such as sepsis. We utilize translational methods including primary human cells, animal models, and the ex vivo human lung.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviewing study protocols and manuals of procedures

  • Reviewing subject status for research activities and determining eligibility in Epic

  • Screening patients for studies

  • Obtaining informed consent from study participants

  • Administering questionnaires

  • Administering medications as per physician orders and protocols

  • Leading research study visits

  • Performing study procedures/collections on adults, infants, and children (venipuncture, pulmonary function testing, exhaled nitric oxide testing, skin prick allergen skin testing, NIH Toolbox cognitive testing, nasal wash/blow/lavage, filter paper, nasal brush, and other as deemed by protocol)

  • Instructing and directly overseeing procedures/collections as needed (saliva, urine, stool, deciduous teeth, and other collections)

  • Documenting obtained research data into electronic data systems

  • Reporting progress updates to study staff

  • Improving processes for maximum productivity

  • Communication and collaboration with immediate teammates and collaborators as needed

  • Reporting protocol deviations and adverse events

  • Maintaining relationships with collaborators

  • Perform study maintenance activities (equipment calibration, quality control testing, supply inventory and ordering)

  • Participate in biannual education of study measures and procedures


TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Scientific Knowledge (Novice): Knowledge of different scientific studies including but not limited Biomedical, Applied, and Physical.
• Regulatory Compliance (Novice): Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations and apply them in difficult, stressful and complex situations. Able to interpret and explain rules and regulations that are ambiguous or unclear. Directs others in interpreting rules and regulations on the job and trains others in them.
• Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
