Job Title:

Research Senior Technician- Otolaryngology

Department:

Medicine | Otolaryngology

Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Wieland at the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) studies the immunological landscape of human papillomavirus-associated head and neck cancer. Central questions of the lab are which viral antigens are being targeted, which immune cell subsets participate in anti-tumor responses, and how they interact using predominately patient-derived specimens. The lab employs several state-of-the-art techniques to address these questions. In addition, the lab is actively engaged in the production of recombinant proteins and human monoclonal antibodies to support our own work as well as other researchers worldwide. Overall, the work of the lab is aimed to determine how anti-tumor immune responses can be harnessed for improved therapy outcomes of cancer patients.

The Wieland Lab is seeking a Research Technician 3 to provide technical and research support for ongoing projects. The successful candidate will contribute to both day-to-day laboratory operations and research activities that advance the lab’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily laboratory operations, including reagent ordering, recombinant protein and human monoclonal antibody production, animal colony management, and preparation of buffers/reagents.
  • Conduct research experiments and projects under the supervision of the PI and/or postdoctoral fellow.
  • Assist the PI with grant preparation and support senior postdoctoral researchers in ongoing projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and laboratory protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (approximately 10%).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or health sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Prior research experience in biological or health sciences preferred.
  • Ability to apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of laboratory-based research required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a background check is required.
  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
