Job Summary

As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you are an expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, applying your extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks to shape the security controls required within solution designs (both people, process and technical) and identify, communicate and help treat corresponding security risks.

Through your strong knowledge of existing and emerging technology, you are able deliver a superior security and network experience for our consumers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of cyber security and engineering knowledge and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in Network and IT specific technology domains.

You play a pivotal role in shaping our technology strategy and protecting Telstra’s assets, acting as a trusted adviser to our people, teams, cyber, engineering and DevOps leaders to build our cyber capability.

ROLE SNAPSHOT

As a Senior Security Engineer in Mobile Network Security, you are part of an exciting team where you will utilise and develop your networks and cloud security knowledge and technical skills to:

  • Lead the design, implementation, integration, and operation of advanced security capabilities within Telstra’s Mobile networks.
  • Develop tailored security solutions to address the unique requirements and challenges posed by 5G mobile infrastructure, including Kubernetes on Bare Metal, internal Private Cloud platforms and Telecommunications networks.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that security is seamlessly integrated into the network infrastructure.
  • Leverage Telstra’s best practice security methodologies, frameworks, tools, and processes to design and build robust network engineering and technology solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with Telstra’s Network and Security team members to drive Security Solution Design, Security Operational Readiness, Change Implementation, and Platform Support initiatives.
  • Communicate Information Security policies, standards, and procedures for Network and Cloud technologies, fostering security awareness within the team.
  • Document your work to ensure business continuity, security, and seamless operational support.
  • Apply a continuous learning and development mindset to your work, investing time and effort into building your knowledge, skills, and understanding of industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Lead your team in conducting continuous improvement initiatives, such as enhancing and improving CI/CD capabilities (testing, automation) to reduce cycle time while retaining quality.

  • Extensive technical proficiency across OpenStack, LINUX, Docker, Kubernetes, TCP/IP Routing Protocols, SDN, and virtualised networking.
  • Demonstrated expertise in OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Network Automation.
  • Proven experience with security tools and practices related to Network, Cloud and DevSecOps.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of OpenStack and Kubernetes security features including Authentication, Authorization, Secure Communication, Encryption, Role-based Access Control (RBAC), Auditing and Logging.
  • Ability to discover, review, and implement innovative approaches to securing internal Private Cloud platforms and Telecommunications networks.
  • A comprehensive understanding of traditional and Cloud-native network security components (such as firewalls, proxies, security groups, identity and access management, MFA, threat prevention, vulnerability management, secrets, and certificate management, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Agile tools and methodologies.
  • Ensure solutions are reusable, scalable, reliable, manageable, secure, and operable, aligning with the Telstra’s technology strategic directions and meeting any specific OKRs.
