Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students has the responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of the University’s student conduct system and care response under the direction of the Dean of Students Office within the Division of Student Affairs. This position will supervise the Holistic Intervention Specialist and co-advise Student Senate. An important part of this role is working with the Holistic Intervention Specialist in providing student support and care for timely situations, ensuring that they have the assistance necessary to get the immediate help that they need. This role will provide critical support and leadership by fostering a campus environment that upholds high standards and expectations for ethical and responsible conduct and behavior. The Assistant Dean of Students will work closely with all departments within the Division of Student Affairs and various campus partners to assist in monitoring and enforcing the University’s student compliance and adherence to our community standards including, but not limited to Title IX, VAWA, FERPA and Clery. In addition to working with the Associate Dean of Students, provide training and educational programming/workshops for campus departments and student organizations regarding students’ rights, risk management, student welfare and expected community standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or other related discipline.
• 5 years of relevant work experience in higher education (student affairs), preferably in student conduct, crisis management, and student care response.
• Previous experience in advising student organizations.
• Strong knowledge and interpersonal skills in working with students navigating personal adversities; ability to comfort and work with them to support their wellbeing.
• Demonstrated leadership in promoting equity and inclusion of diverse students and professionals.
• Ability to make timely decisions and work collectively with University stakeholders in matters related to student conduct and case management.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organization skills; ability to effectively prioritize timely student issues.
• Ability to provide rotating on-call support on behalf of the Dean of Students Office.
• Ability to demonstrate completion of training and application in the areas of Title IX and VAWA; working knowledge of Clery is strongly desired.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 7-10 years of higher education experience within student affairs.
• Previous experience in conduct adjudication and case management, Title IX decision-making (Sexual and Interpersonal Misconduct), residence life and student affairs protocols and policies, and crisis management, and student care response.
Job Duties:
- 30% - Manages the day-to-day operations of the University student conduct system (non-academic misconduct) by receiving, evaluating and investigating allegations of violations of the Code of Student Conduct and other applicable policies through the oversight of the Dean of Students Office. Overseeing the Holistic Intervention Specialist, makes sure student support and care are provided for timely situations, ensuring students have the assistance necessary to get the immediate help that they need. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life, oversees the University’s conduct tracking system (Maxient) - (Essential)
- 20% - Provides on-call support to the Dean of Students Office and serves as a point-of-contact for timely student emergencies and designated Maxient/Starfish reports - (Essential)
- 15% - Serves as the decision-maker (when applicable) for sexual and interpersonal misconduct cases (Title IX, Clery, VAWA) with the assistance and support of the Dean of Students Office, Drake Public Safety, and Title IX Coordinator. Maintains annual training and professional development in the areas of Title IX, FERPA, VAWA
