Certified Peer Recovery Specialist

Location: Chesapeake, VA. Indian Creek Correctional Center is a level 2 medium security prison. This facility provides specialized treatment services to individuals with substance use disorder.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm OR 7:45 am – 4:45 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Pay Rate: $23.10/hr. ($48,000 annually).

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for:

•  Acting as an active facilitator (or co-facilitator) in non-clinical groups, seminars, and meetings.
• Building therapeutic alliance and exercising trauma-informed care.
• Demonstrating knowledge of community resources to help meet offender’s unique recovery needs.
• Working cohesively with multi-disciplinary team through all aspects of offender’s treatment and recovery.
• Documenting all encounters with offenders in CORIS.
• Encouraging and supporting from a place of experience and understanding.
• Advocating for the needs of the offender and ensuring that their individualized goals are being met in accordance with their assessed needs.
• Participating in training and educational activities to obtain certification (CSAC) and to remain current in knowledge of effective treatment methods.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• State certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the state of Virginia is required. 
• Experience working in the substance abuse treatment field is preferred.
• Experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus.
• Experience working in Therapeutic Community model programs is a plus.
