Job Summary: The Youth Instructor plans and leads recreational, educational, or enrichment activities for children and teens in a structured and safe environment. This position fosters positive youth development, promotes social engagement, and encourages creativity, fitness, and learning through organized classes, workshops, camps, clinics, and activities. The Youth Instructor creates an inclusive experience for participants and families while maintaining safety, appropriate supervision, and adherence to City of Greeley Recreation policies and risk management procedures.
Experience, Education, and Skills:
This role requires the ability to lead age-appropriate activities for youth ages 3–14 with a focus on safety, engagement, and skill development. The Youth Instructor must maintain required safety certifications and demonstrate proficiency in one or more sport/activity areas as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Zero to three (0-3) years experience in community facing roles or customer service.
One to three (1-3) years experience working with youth from ages 3 -14.
Three to ten (3-10) years in one or more of the following sports: football, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, cheer, pickleball, dance.
Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid Certification required: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
Zero to three (0-3) years coaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to conduct an effective class based on the sport format appropriate to participant age and skill level.
Demonstrate knowledge of proper group management and time management.
Ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.
Confidence working in small to large groups.
Knowledge of youth development principles and best practices.
Ability to lead and engage children and teens in structured activities.
Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
Creativity and flexibility in planning engaging activities.
Ability to maintain control of a group and adapt to changing circumstances.
Ability to follow safety procedures, respond to incidents, and communicate concerns to supervisors promptly.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for design and delivery of sports camps and clinics.
Keeps accurate record of class attendance.
Willingness to cross-train in other sport categories, camps and clinic opportunities.
Serves as a role model to staff and participants as it relates to sport philosophy, etiquette and safety.
Provides a friendly, inclusive, service-oriented environment for parents and participants.
Maintains familiarity of Greeley Recreation functions including risk management procedures, registration information, basic operational practices, and understanding of programs and services.
