Software Engineer Intern

The Elevator Pitch  

Do you want to gain hands-on experience in software engineering? Are you eager to learn and develop critical skills for your future career as an engineer? 

In this 10-week Software Engineer Intern role, you will help field support, service scalability, and synopsis as part of software qualification. Not only will you be gaining critical skills in software engineering, but you will also have the opportunity to be exposed to the ins and outs of the company, while getting exposure to all other departments and how they operate. 

Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first half and second half of the internship you will work toward completing?  

In the first 5 weeks, you will: 

• Understand Evolv, our product and culture, what we do, and why we do it 
• Understand synopsis more to use for system diagnostics and troubleshooting 
• Easily be able to access performance metrics 
• Create more streamlined and automated most common Synopsis use-cases 
• Reduce synopsis tech debt 
• Find and fix Synopsis bugs more quickly 
• Feel part of a team 

In the last 5 weeks, you will: 

• Key metrics are searchable in OpenSearch by scanner, by build over time and visualized. 

• Example metrics: Alert latency overall, Alert transport time, Processing time, Matlab Time, Slice_Done time, time-to-standby 

• Be a go-to person for Synopsis support of features based on OpenSearch 
• Be a go-to person for Synopsis support in other areas 
• Have a better idea of what you want or don’t want out of your career 

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? 

Technical development in the areas of c++, AWS services, database and python 

• In 2 weeks, be comfortable navigating Synopsis c++ codebase, python consumers, and OpenSearch tools 
• In 6 weeks, be able to code analytics in OpenSearch environment 
• In 10 weeks, create a new OpenSearch visualization 

Team engagement/Teamwork 

• In 2 weeks, be engaged in appropriate team meetings, know who's who, and be comfortable reaching out to anyone on the team 
• In 6 weeks, the team will recognize you as a Synopsis contributor 
• In 10 weeks, you will be a vital part of the team 
   

Data analytics, visualization and presentation 

• In 2 weeks, identify at least one new metric to extract and understand statistics used  
• In 6 weeks, code end-to-end data flow as needed 
• In 10 weeks, visualize metric optionally by scanner, by host version, by host session over configurable timeframe

• You will be joining the Software Engineering Team, reporting to the Senior Software Engineering Manager.

Where is the role located?  

• The location of this role is based in Waltham, MA with some flexibility in being remote some days.  We do not provide relocation assistance at this time.

What is the pay range?  

• The hourly pay range for this internship position is $22-$26 an hour. Our pay ranges are determined by your current level of education.
