Adaptive Assistant Instructor (75012)

As an Adaptive Sports Assistant Instructor at Asphalt Green, you will play a key role in supporting the lead instructor in delivering inclusive and engaging adaptive classes for neurodivergent and developmentally disabled children ages 5 -8 and 9 -12.  This part-time position, offering $25 per hour, is based at our Brooklyn location, Major Owens Community Center (1561 Bedford Avenue).  Your role will involve assisting with activities in an on-site program run by our partners at Playground Pathways. 

 
Asphalt Green is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting health and wellness through sports, fitness, and play. We offer a diverse range of adaptive classes designed to foster physical, social, and emotional development in children with diverse abilities. 

Note: This is a weekend position starting SEPTEMBER 6th. Playground Pathways at Asphalt Green will run on Saturdays 11:30am-12:50pm (ages 5-8) and 1-2:15pm (ages 9-12).   

Key Responsibilities: 

• Assist lead instructors in delivering adaptive class activities. 

• Support children in engaging with class activities, adapting to their individual needs, and ensuring a positive, inclusive experience. 

• Set up and clean up equipment and materials for each class. 

• Collaborate with lead instructors and staff to ensure smooth class operations and a supportive environment. 

• Experience working with children, especially those with diverse abilities, in recreational or educational settings. 

• Background in supporting inclusive or adaptive activities. 

• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience in adaptive physical education, therapeutic recreation, or a related field. 

• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
