Long Description

SUMMARY:  The General Manager, Retail leads the store and online retail operations for Memphis Zoo. This position adheres to company policies and procedures, demonstrates Levy core values, and leads the retail team with high standards of excellence. 

 

Essential Responsiblitites

  • Lead the retail team to deliver best in class experience for zoo guests across product assortment, retail environment and customer relations.
  • Oversight of the zoo’s Buy to ensure locations are fully stocked, adhere to company Open to Buy strategy and drive profit through a diverse pricing strategy.
  • Identifying and implementing plans for continual operational improvement
  • Overseeing retail opening / closing duties
  • Handling customer complaints to ensure timely and satisfactory completion
  • Processing inventory with timeliness and accuracy; processes invoices in a timely manner, receiving orders & verifying accuracy.
  • Oversee the rotation of merchandise for different event types to optimize revenue
  • Lead & Develop the team through pre-shifts, training, ongoing coaching and development. 
  • Overseeing sales floor restocking to optimize product availability
  • Completing team member orientation, training, coaching, and progressive discipline as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with all Payment Card Information rules always
  • Managing location 'Keys to the Future' activities to develop future leaders
  • Partner with Food & Beverage team to leverage incremental revenue throughout the zoo.
  • Ensure store level financial objectives adhere to fiscal budget, manage P & L, completes reporting.
  • Schedule staff to optimize operations.
  • Oversee the Retail E-Commerce Manager and all aspects of shop.memphiszoo.org.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, partners, colleagues, and guests.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and teach direct management reports as well as hourly associates.
  • Thoroughly and accurately uses applicable R+R/Levy systems (POS system, scheduling and more) and executes required daily reporting in a timely manner
  • Ensures that all security, safety and sanitation standards are achieved
  • Regularly obtains feedback from clients and customers to improve operations
  • Liaise with the executive team to develop strategic growth plans to meet company goals in order to meet and exceed goals
  • Promotes a cooperative work climate, maximizing productivity and morale
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Open availability (evenings, weekends, holidays), flexible for add’l hours per business needs.
  • Passion for retail
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • 2+ years retail management including store operations, merchandising and guest services
  • Proficient in standard computer systems (ie, Microsoft Office); ability to learn internal systems (retail / tech).
  • Experience with hard and soft lines of merchandise.
  • E-commerce experience is preferred but not required
  • Experience with assortment and buy planning.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate staff and sales service team.
  • 3-5 Years of Inventory and P&L management experience required
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and guests
  • Able to keep clients abreast of all retail related initiatives/concerns.
  • English reading, writing, math, and computer skills required.
