About the role

Description

Our outpatient psychiatry service is expanding to work with local school districts, and we are looking for a clinical social worker (LCSW) who welcomes the challenge and satisfaction of providing behavioral health care to a diverse population of youth and young adults in collaboration with a motivated group of clinicians, researchers, and educators.  Our social workers provide clinical services and may also contribute to academic activities such as teaching, providing supervision and research.

The clinician will serve as a Clinical Social Worker in our outpatient settings which will require travel between locations, some on the east end of Long Island.  Responsibilities include direct patient care including needs assessments, diagnostic evaluation, individual and group psychotherapy, providing school consultations, conducting brief interventions, liaising between school districts and the Department and providing short term care to children, adolescents, and young adults.  This role will support efforts to integrate education and clinical care within our local community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting urgent and routine diagnostic evaluations, assessing level of care needed and making treatment recommendations.
  • Providing short-term psychiatric care for young adults, children and adolescents in either urgent or outpatient settings.
  • Collaborating with local school districts to provide consultation, ensuring integration of educational and clinical efforts for students.
  • Working with families and other collaterals to obtain histories as needed to ensure accurate assessments and appropriate treatment planning.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across various locations, utilizing a variety of electronic documentation systems. 
  • Working with children and family on linkage to community resources. 
  • Supervising Social Work students from the School of Social Welfare.

Schedule:

Full-time position, totaling 40 hours per week with cross-coverage responsibilities as needed.  The anticipated schedule allows for approximately 70% of the time dedicated to clinical care, and 30% liaising with schools, communities and families.

The position is Monday through Friday with varying hours during the day shift.  The position requires local travel between locations, some on the east end of Long Island, and some hours can be conducted remotely.  Some urgent or emergent evaluations will be conducted virtually during scheduled shifts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
MSW (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited Social Work Education School.  New York State LCSW licensure.  Knowledge and experience providing evidenced based psychotherapy including cognitive behavioral therapy and/or group therapy to child and adolescent patients.  

Preferred Qualifications: 
SIFI certified.  Substance Use Disorder Experience.  Experience training social work interns.  Providing care via telehealth videoconferencing platform.  At least 3 years post licensure experience of conducting intake assessments, group therapy, and individual therapy.
