Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage contract process from inception to completion while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Work independently with a high degree of accuracy to review, draft, and timely execute contracts to support sales and internal operations, from Non-disclosure Agreements to Master Services Agreements to company-specific program agreements, ensuring compliance with approved templates and assisting Department Attorneys as requested.
  • Lead and execute special legal projects, such M&A activities, and proactively volunteer, pioneer ideas and accomplish assignments as a legal subject matter expert within departmental and company projects and committees.
  • Assist in managing company intellectual property.
  • Primarily accountable for the Department’s work in managing company records retention policies and overseeing company-wide policy adherence.
  • Review incoming legal actions and prepare responses for issued subpoenas and customer complaints originating through insurance departments. Ensure all required steps are followed in response.
  • Maintain awareness of current events and industry topics. Identify patterns and trends to recognize potential issues related to company products, programs or operations; escalate complex legal and factual issues or risks to appropriate internal decision makers for discussion and resolution.
  • Perform legal and factual research and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Department lead for providing support for maintaining contract and legal matter management database.
  • Build and maintain positive internal and external customer relationships and provide services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • As required to assist with Department needs, as back-up to the assigned Compliance professional, review marketing and communications materials for legal compliance.
  • Demonstrate leadership as follows:

    • Motivate and influence others through a diligent, professional approach to all activities, and assist in training and mentoring others in or outside of the Department.

Principal Working Relationships

Internal: Legal department attorneys, plus employees throughout the company.

External: State insurance department personnel, outside counsel, and industry-related specialists

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 8+ years of related experience in a legal office or other work environment related to areas of responsibility.  Paralegal certification or training desirable.

Computer Skills

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Excel, Teams, DocuSign, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat and be able to learn various software and research applications.
