Reporting to the Team Lead, Operational Technology at Red Dog Operations, the Field Technician, is responsible for implementing and maintaining various technologies that allow the safe and efficient operation of mining processes. The Field Technician is a primarily field-based role that will require a combination of technical and critical thinking skills that will allow the incumbent to maintain various technologies that maximize the productivity and efficiency of the mining operation. Technologies include: fleet management systems, high precision GPS machine control and guidance, 802.3 wired and 802.11 wireless networks, collision avoidance, and fragmentation cameras.
The position will be held in a 2 x 2 shift at Red Dog Operations (RDO, located in the Alaska region)
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Maintain hardware components in the work area to guarantee the function and connectivity of various technologies
- Work with on and off-site specialist groups to facilitate and support infrastructure improvements and resolution of incidents and problems
- Keep up-to-date documentation of the systems during the execution of changes to the infrastructure resulting from maintenance activities
- Participate as part of the team to identify, evaluate and implement new technologies or changes to the infrastructure as necessary
- Guarantee the safety and availability of technology systems
- Typical responsibilities include the installation and troubleshooting of mobile electronics, machine control & guidance systems, 12/24V DC electrical systems, solar panels, wired (802.3) and wireless (802.11) network support, and ensuring proper network availability and coverage via static and mobile communication trailers
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Electrical or Electronic Technician Diploma, or some other related discipline and applicable work experience
- Experience with IP wired and wireless networks
- Minimum experience between 1 and 3 years performing similar functions in an industrial setting
- Knowledge of the best practices for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of digital systems in mining
- Familiarity with fleet management systems, machine control & guidance, or other mobile equipment platforms would be considered an asset
- Ability to work in the field for extended periods under various environmental conditions
- A valid Alaska driver license is preferred
