JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the custodial maintenance of the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center facilities.

Works under the supervision of the Adult Programs Manager.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Must be capable to work harmoniously with co-workers and volunteers when needed.

Little supervision is exercised in this position.

The position requires a person primarily to as part of a crew or to work alone and independently.

Cleans and keeps all interior and exterior senior center facilities in a neat and orderly condition.

Sanitizes surfaces used by patrons and staff.

Moves and sets up tables and chairs for the various activities of the Senior Center facilities.

Friendly disposition and the ability to respond to the needs of patrons.

Janitorial duties include a combination of sweeping, vacuuming, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removal of all trash and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, and fixtures (vents, lights, windows, and blinds). Cleans rest rooms; cleans dining room, kitchenettes, all meeting rooms, offices, pool room, and ceramic shop. Cleans all windows, doors, and entryways, inside and outside, as well as the picnic shelter.

Performs simple maintenance duties not requiring practical skill and knowledge of a trade such as changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers, etc; as well as simple maintenance on equipment.

Required to order and keep cleaning supplies stocked in all senior center facilities.

Receives incoming shipments; verifies correctness of incoming shipments and unloads truck with or without help.

Works a varied schedule which will include weekends and evenings as needed.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists with food preparation, service of the meals, and clean-up of the kitchen, as needed.

Assists with the procurement of needed supplies for ongoing classes and functions.

Works other related senior activities within the Senior Center campus or outside, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.

Thorough knowledge of custodial procedures and operations.

Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and compounds.

Ability to operate floor stripper, carpet shampooer, burnisher, vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair on equipment and facilities.

Must be able to organize and maintain a variety of simultaneous projects and must be able to establish priorities as necessary.

Ability to communicate with senior citizens.

Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Experience in geriatric recreational activities preferred, but not necessary.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Floor stripper, carpet shampooer, burnisher, vacuum cleaners, and other cleaning equipment and calculator.
