Position Summary

Austin, Texas, Hybrid

The North American Datacenter & Cloud Operations team operates and maintains all the driver’s licensing, law enforcement and DHS systems for which Thales has responsibility.

As a Cloud Architect you will lead our cloud transformation initiatives and define architecture patterns for public cloud environments. This role involves collaborating with technical leaders, training engineering teams, and providing expertise in architecture design and security audits.

In this role, you will manage FinOps to optimize cloud costs, develop automation tools, and ensure the engineering team is autonomous with new technologies.

Regulatory Compliance Requirements

Must have U.S. Citizenship in order to obtain the post-hire Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and must be able to obtain post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Justice.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead the implementation and setup of cloud technologies in collaboration with technical leaders of the engineering and operation teams.

  • Train various engineering teams on cloud-based technology and CI/CD tools to support cloud transformation and ensure autonomy.

  • Provide guidance and expertise during architecture definition, including security audits, architecture design, and pre-sales support.

  • Collaborate with finance and engineering teams to establish cost management practices and monitor cloud spending.

  • Implement cost-saving strategies and provide recommendations for cost optimization.

  • Develop and set up automation tools (CI/CD) to support development, validation, and integration technical processes.

  • Write guidelines, installation guides, documentation, and training materials to ensure the engineering team is autonomous with new technologies.

  • Monitor cloud infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability.

  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of cloud infrastructure to identify and mitigate potential risks.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with at least 10 years of professional experience.

  • AWS Certification(s) such as Solutions Architect Pro, DevOps Engineer Pro, SysOps Admin, or Developer Associate.

  • 5+ years of experience in system integration and deployment of cloud-based technologies (IaaS, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack, monitoring systems such as Datadog, authentication systems).

  • Extensive expertise in AWS services and solutions, with a strong understanding of AWS architecture and best practices.

  • Proficiency in AWS services such as Amazon EC2, FSx, S3, RDS, and VPC.

  • Strong knowledge of AWS security services, including AWS IAM, AWS KMS, and Amazon GuardDuty.

  • Experience with serverless architecture, including AWS Fargate.

  • Experience with large and complex distributed systems with high availability and scalability (using application servers, message-broker services, streaming, load-balancing, autoscaling).

  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) languages, source code management, scripting, and continuous automation principles (CI/CD), including tools like Terraform, Flux, GitLab, and Helm.

  • Proficiency in at least one development language (Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, Go).

  • Experience with automating cloud-native technologies, deploying applications, and provisioning infrastructure.

  • Experience implementing and designing cloud-native security concepts, DevSecOps, or MLOps.

  • Good knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Windows).

  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools, such as AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic,
