About the Department
 

The Li lab is associated with the Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and its main research interest is in the gastrointestinal and immune systems. The current research projects focus on gut mucosal inflammation, intestinal senescence, mucosal homeostasis, macrophages and innate immunity.


Job Summary
 

The Li Lab is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on the regulation of intestinal mucosal homeostasis, with a particular focus on understanding the roles of cellular metabolites, protein acetylation and microbiota in the development of intestinal senescence, mucosal inflammation and intestinal inflammatory disease.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, facilitate and advance the scientific research projects, analyze and interpret the scientific data, and develop and test experimental protocols.

  • Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.

  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.

  • May supervise other research staff.

  • May present work at scientific meetings, and provide peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.

  • The individual in this role will be involved in all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and analysis of research projects focused on the intestinal system and innate immunity.

  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

  • Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Education:

  • Doctoral degree.

Experience:

  • Strong publication record in scientific research.

  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in research.

  • Research experiences in the gastrointestinal or immune system.

  • Supervisory experience.

Preferred Competencies

  • Strong knowledge in gastrointestinal biology and/or innate immunity.

  • Strong experimental and technical skills.

  • Research experiences in genetic animal models.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organization skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
