About the role

The Role:

The Head of US Commercial Finance will serve as the finance business partner to the US Commercial Organization, providing financial and business insights, guidance, and decision support. This role is critical as Moderna builds its commercial model and expands its product lines with 15 launches planned over the next 5 years. The Head of Finance US Commercial will lead financial advising and reporting for the US Commercial organization, enabling optimal resource allocation through complex financial analysis, detailed sales analytics, and pricing and reimbursement modeling. This role also coordinates and executes the Long Range Plan, Annual Budget, monthly and quarterly forecasting, and reporting activities for timely and accurate consolidation into corporate reporting requirements.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the US Commercial Organization, providing insights, reporting, and analytics to support key decisions and develop long-term business plans. This includes acting as a functional champion in Moderna’s strategic Long Range Planning (LRP) process, where a data-centric approach is crucial for aligning digital efforts with business priorities.

  • Partner with the business to drive ROI analysis, manage the entire planning cycle including Budget, LRP, and monthly / quarterly forecasting, using a dynamic range approach to drive both strategic and operational objectives.

  • Manage the P&L for the US market closely with commercial partners, including revenue and operating expense forecasting and managing risks and opportunities, while pushing past possible to address and overcome challenges proactively.

  • Develop strategy in collaboration with the business, including pricing dynamics, and act as a bridge between the US team and corporate team, removing viscosity to foster smoother inter-departmental collaboration.

  • Lead the monthly US revenue forecasting process, providing performance statistics to the leadership team and collaborating with sales leadership and operations to deliver regular updates on expected performance.

  • Ensure monthly results are well-understood and aligned with forecasts, providing accounting guidance as needed, and obsessing over learning to continually improve financial accuracy and insight.

  • Provide financial leadership for growth initiatives, customer development, sales performance incentives, and product development opportunities, enabling the team to question convention and explore innovative approaches to commercial finance.

  • Proactively deliver insightful analysis on revenue and profitability by assessing trends in product, geography, price, and customer mix, and pivot fearlessly in response to new data to optimize financial strategies.

  • Work with leaders in Accounting, Market Access, Contract Operations, Sales, Commercial Analytics, and Marketing to create advanced financial analysis and reporting while effectively interpreting and communicating recommendations.

  • Understand and appropriately forecast all gross to net impacts in close partnership with Accounting and Commercial teams.

  • Work cross-functionally to understand vaccination rates and go-to-market strategies across multiple channels and patient segments.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of relevant FP&A experience with 5+ years of Biotech/Pharmaceutical Commercial FP&A required.

  • Experience launching and tracking performance for launch brands.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with brand marketing, commercial operations, and sales.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.

  • Ability to lead and influence beyond finance to drive significant impacts for Moderna US

  • Strong business acumen: proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms.

  • Excellent project management / leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage teams to work together towards common deadlines.

  • Strong presentation skills to deliver succinctly and effectively deliver recommendations to senior leaders and frame complex concepts.

  • Prior experience working in a US matrixed environment; experience coordinating processes and delivering results collaboratively.

  • Skilled in decision-making, conflict resolution, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Demonstrated track record of successful people management, including hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing teams.

  • Experience with performance management
