Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer / Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer for the System Test Instrumentation team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will join a team researching, planning, designing, and developing the mechanical sub-systems for test data instrumentation systems. This will include development of engineering layouts and drawings, system architecture and creative strategies for difficult testing environments.

  • System and component level analyses of complex systems

  • Component engineering and testing

  • Component and instrumentation system manufacturing and testing

  • Research, analysis, system design and development of systems, hardware procurement, and technical oversight with suppliers

  • Applying research to the design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, and/or machines.

  • Supporting testing and flight operations as well as authoring procedures and other engineering instructions for test, operations or customer use.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Mechanical Engineer level (T03) or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer level (T04).

  • Principal Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related experience; 3 years of experience with a Master of Science degree; 1 year experience with a PhD

  • Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related experience; 6 years of experience with a Master of Science degree; 4 year experience with a PhD

Requirements for both levels:

  • Must have ability to obtain U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance. 

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need 

  • 1+ years experience writing test plans and procedures

  • 3+ years experience using CAD design tools (i.e. NX, CATIA, etc.)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong team collaboration skills

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Masters degree in Mechanical, Aerospace , or Systems Engineering

  • Experience leading hardware procurement/supply chain operations

  • Instrumentation experience using fiber optic cabling

  • Direct experience with manufacturing and testing of instrumentation systems, specifically with accelerometers, acoustic microphones, pressure transducers, IMUs and data acquisition systems

  • Experience with environmental sensor measurements using specialized test equipment

  • Experience with Calibration of tooling and test equipment

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
