About the role

This role is fully remote based in the US; we put a location because some job boards require it

Kasa seeks an ambitious tax expert with Hotel Occupancy Tax/ToT experience to join us as the Senior Hospitality Tax Analyst. You should possess a strong understanding of regional and national tax laws/filing requirements and have experience with tax filings across multiple jurisdictions throughout the US. If you thrive in dynamic, tech-driven environments, join us to enhance our finance function and make a significant impact across Kasa!

The Role

Kasa is a fast-growing tech-enabled brand and operator of hotel, multifamily, and single-family hospitality accommodations for guests in dozens of markets nationwide. Kasa manages properties on behalf of institutional and local property owners across various price and luxury tiers.
In this pivotal role, the Senior Hospitality Tax Accountant will be the primary individual responsible for Kasa’s tax function across occupancy tax, sales tax, and corporate income tax, among others. You will ensure accurate sales and occupancy tax collections from guests, timely filings with multiple jurisdictions across the United States, coordination of external tax advisors, and accurate payment of all taxes across Kasa’s properties and corporate entities. By doing so, you will help ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for Kasa’s property partners and investors. Your mission as the Senior Tax Analyst is to own all aspects of tax collection, reporting, filing, and recordkeeping to continue Kasa’s success in delivering market-leading financial reporting to our hotel and multifamily partners while improving Kasa’s tech-driven approach to scalable accounting solutions for the hospitality industry.     This is an extraordinary opportunity to join a truly differentiated finance operation that drives tremendous value for Kasa’s property partners and investors. This role requires strong organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and familiarity with regional and national tax laws/filing requirements. Additionally, this role is highly cross-functional with daily interaction with other members of the finance team as well as local government officials and city clerks.
As the company’s main “owner” of tax reporting and filing, the Senior Tax Analyst will create significant positive leverage for the rest of the organization plus build out a critical function as the company continues to grow. This role is remote and will report directly to the Associate Director of Finance.

Your Impact as the Senior Tax Analyst

  • Ensure Accurate Tax Calculations: You will “own” the tax calculation, filing and remittance functions at Kasa, with primary accountability for our occupancy tax collections, corporate income tax filing and coordination with local tax municipalities regularly. You will have a direct impact on ensuring we remain best-in-class for this critical function.
  • Tax Reconciliation Scalability & Accuracy: Given Kasa’s highly centralized accounting function, it’s critical to continually improve our tax reconciliation and recognition processes through automation.
  • Systems Improvement: Work with the tech team and other finance leaders to improve current systems or processes to create a best-in-class tax accounting function.
  • Tax Filing Accuracy: This role requires frequent interaction with external tax authorities that will require multiple follow-ups, varying timelines and periodic filings that must meet strict deadlines.
  • Tax and Audit Improvements: Ensure accurate transient occupancy tax settings and reporting (working closely with other members of the finance, regulatory and distributions team), while also ensuring that our corporate tax practices are consistent with audit requirements from Kasa’s corporate auditor.

Required Attributes

  • Requirement: Minimum three years of tax filing and reporting experience across occupancy tax, sales tax and corporate / real estate taxes for the hospitality and/or real estate industry
  • Requirement: Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities, as this role requires frequent conversations with external third parties across multiple jurisdictions with varying project timelines.
  • Nice to have: Hospitality tax or accounting experience
  • The ideal candidate will have an extreme attention to detail with impressive multitasking skills.
