Job Title: CRNA Program Director
Department: School of Nursing
Reports To: Dean of the School of Nursing
Position Summary:
The CRNA Program Director is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of the Nurse Anesthesia program. This includes oversight of curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, student admissions, accreditation compliance, and program evaluation. The Program Director ensures the program meets the highest standards of academic excellence and prepares students to become competent, compassionate, and ethical Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership and Administration:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Nurse Anesthesia program.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with accreditation standards.
- In collaboration with education and finance leadership, prepare and oversee the program capital and operating budgets. Manage program resources efficiently.
- Lead the annual faculty workload assignment process in conjunction with education leadership.
- Interpret the policies of the SON and university and translate these policies into proposed actions for the program.
- Initiate an annual review, development, and assessment of program goals. Complete an annual Systematic Evaluation Plan and program annual report.
- Plans and participates in program faculty meetings.
- In collaboration with associate deans, represents the program and program faculty within the SON, URMC, and UR Medicine and maintains effective, collegial relationships with other SON and URMC programs & departments.
- Curriculum Development and Oversight:
- Teaches assigned courses in the CRNA program
- Design, implement, and evaluate the curriculum to meet educational and professional standards.
- Ensure alignment with the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) requirements.
- Integrate evidence-based practice and innovative teaching methods into the curriculum in collaboration with education leadership and Education Innovation Team (EdIT).
- Review CEs and TEs at both the individual and program faculty level and make curricular and operational changes as necessary.
- Faculty Recruitment and Development:
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members to ensure high-quality instruction and clinical supervision.
- Promote faculty development opportunities to enhance teaching, research, and clinical expertise.
- Encourage scholarly activities for program faculty.
- Advocate for service to the SON, university, and the local community.
- Student Recruitment and Support:
- Collaborate with the SON marketing and communications team in the development and revision of program materials for internal and external SON communications.
- In collaboration with all academic leaders, coordinate, participate in, and evaluate the effectiveness of all aspects of the program to ensure an efficient and excellent student experience.
- In conjunction with the associate dean for education, the assistant dean for student affairs, and director of enrollment and admissions management team, establish criteria for admissions and student interview processes.
- Represent the program and participate in the marketing and recruitment efforts for the program, including both onsite and offsite events.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate, in collaboration with academic deans, student affairs staff, and program faculty, student-centered pedagogies and evidence-based student advising practices.
- Provide academic and professional guidance to students throughout the program.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Accreditation and Compliance:
- Ensure the program meets all accreditation standards set by the COA and other regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and submit required reports and documentation for accreditation and program evaluation.
- Clinical Partnerships:
- Develop and maintain relationships with clinical sites to ensure high-quality clinical experiences for students.
- Collaborate with clinical partners to align program goals with workforce needs.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Promote research and scholarship among faculty and students.
