**This position is 3rd shift**

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

Perform maintenance and repair work on a variety of Medical Center plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment; assume independent responsibility for response to maintenance, repair and emergency trouble calls for assigned Medical Center facilities during other than normal working hours (second and third shifts) and on weekends and holidays.

 

WORK PERFORMED: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned and a more comprehensive task list may be provided.

 

Respond to Medical Center emergency maintenance calls after normal shop hours and on weekends and holidays; log all calls received and document action taken; perform repair work as needed; if permanent repair is not immediately feasible, perform necessary temporary repairs sufficient to secure the systems and facility; notify appropriate engineer, supervisor, or security personnel if further action is required.

 

Conduct periodic inspections of designated facilities and equipment; make repairs and perform preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, and communication systems and equipment; make repairs to general building facilities as needed.

 

Respond immediately to fire alarm systems; disengage electrical, water, or gas systems to protect building occupants and property; assist Public Safety in removing patients, personnel, or equipment as needed.

 

Assist with major repairs to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and refrigeration equipment as required.

 

Advise management of general condition of facilities and equipment and any unusual problems or concerns that may arise; make recommendations for improvements and upgrades to facilities for budget planning.

 

Maintain appropriate documentation and maintenance/repair records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and codes.

 

Perform other assigned duties incidental to the work described herein.

EDUCATION/TRAINING High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE Three to four years minimum experience required either in a specific trade or in general building maintenance and repair.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid N.C. Driver's license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one or small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in emergency situations.  Must respect the privacy of patients and maintain the confidentiality of any patient information related to their treatment.  Ability to complete daily records, logs, and time sheets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk.  The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is frequently required to climb ladders and routinely climb stairs.   The employee must regularly lift, push, and/or pull up to 20 pounds, frequently lift, push, and/or pull up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift, push, and/or pull 50 pounds or more.
