Schedule: 40 hours per week (Remote)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The SafeSpot Outreach & Communications Specialist is responsible for expanding awareness and utilization of SafeSpot's overdose prevention services across Massachusetts and other funded states. This dynamic role includes coordinating statewide outreach, delivering trainings, conducting site visits, managing communications, and overseeing social media engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about harm reduction, skilled in communication, and experienced in field-based outreach.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate outreach efforts with over 500 state-licensed treatment, harm reduction, reentry, housing, and supportive programs.

  • Maintain regular communication with service providers and community stakeholders via email, phone, and in-person meetings.

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with partners to ensure collaborative service delivery and program alignment.

Site Visits & In-Person Engagement

  • Conduct regular in-person site visits, including multi-day outreach trips across Massachusetts and other funded states.

  • Promote SafeSpot’s services, demonstrate how the hotline works, and assess alignment with Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) guidelines.

Training & Event Representation

  • Deliver in-depth trainings to program staff, community members, and clients on SafeSpot operations and overdose prevention best practices.

  • Represent SafeSpot by tabling at conferences, summits, and community health events.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and submit detailed reports to BSAS summarizing outreach activities, key findings, and program outcomes.

Communications & Content Creation

  • Develop outreach materials such as fliers, one-pagers, and slide decks.

  • Manage SafeSpot’s social media platforms to amplify services, share harm reduction messaging, and engage with the public.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Communications, or a related discipline (or equivalent lived/professional experience may be considered)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a SafeSpot hotline operator

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, public health, or workforce development.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of harm reduction principles and experience working with individuals affected by substance use.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfort with public speaking and training facilitation

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, and social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel across the state, including overnight trips

  • Flexibility to travel regionally (up to 70%) and take on occasional evening/weekend responsibilities.

  • Must have driver’s license and vehicle for regional travel

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Active Driver’s License
