The Role
The Lead Engineer position will require both technical expertise and project management competency. This position will consist of site surveys, Bill of Material (BOM) review, engineering, installation, trouble shooting, test and turn up, and quality control checks. The Lead Engineer will work directly with site contacts, subcontractors, and internal team members to provide input on ISP designs and ensure successful network integration, trouble shooting and preventive maintenance activities. The position will support the deployment of Long-Haul Optical Transport Networks, LAN/WAN installations, testing, evaluation of equipment, implementation of network upgrades and system design changes. The position will ensure the uniformity of practices, quality control, and procedure implementation while being the primary contact for field engineering deployments at Lumen facilities.
- Responsible for the oversight of site implementation to include site surveys, cabinet installation, and any other associated tasks at sites in the network.
- Address project/personnel issues as they occur and report to management in a timely manner.
- Analyze drawings and other documentation to prepare SOWs.
- Communicate with management, engineers, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to documentation.
- Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on SOW content and scheduling.
- Quality assurance and uniformity of installations / practices and procedures.
- In field training and oversight for Field Engineers.
- Singular point of contact for Site Managers regarding large site deployments.
- Writing and updating field methods, procedures, and checklists.
- Ensuring that current methods are followed in the field.
- Deployment planning and coordination.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
- Multitask multiple projects at any given time.
Must have a current TS/SCI security clearance.
Work Location
Primary Location: Must live within a two-hour drive of any of the following cities:
- Herndon, VA
- Denver, CO
- Omaha, NE
- Phoenix, AZ
The Main Responsibilities
- Work closely with the program Field Engineering team to implement, protect and sustain operational network requirements.
- Provide estimates for Installation Ready Materials (IRM) and review of project BoM.
- Assist with development of project schedules.
- Provide functional guidance, supervision, training, and quality assurance as required for less qualified Field Engineers.
- Provide remote troubleshooting support during test & turn up phases of new installations as well as operational troubles.
- Perform site surveys to assist in development of Engineering Design Packages (EDP).
- Review and modify EDPs to ensure accuracy.
- Analyze and resolve onsite field installation discrepancies.
- Coordinate with installation subcontractors as required.
