What You’ll Do

The Cyber Security Engineer at Freeman Health System is responsible for safeguarding all enterprise data, including HIPAA-regulated and other sensitive information, by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of network and system resources. This role involves maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of cybersecurity technologies such as cloud security, remote access, EDR, firewalls, IDS/IPS, DLP, and NAC. The engineer contributes to the design and implementation of Zero Trust environments, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies. Additionally, they lead projects, develop enterprise-class security solutions, and collaborate across departments and partner organizations to uphold security best practices and organizational standards.

Responsibilities:

• Plans, implements, manages, monitors, and upgrades security architecture & technology, policies, and procedures to protect systems and data. 

• Ensures that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by researching, recommending, and enabling security controls. 

• Champions cybersecurity technologies, practices, processes, techniques, risks, and trends to Freeman Health System based on industry research. 

• Tests and identifies network and system weaknesses through vulnerability scanners, penetration testing, and other methodology. 

• Responds to system and/or network security, analyze breaches, and implement remediation measures in collaboration with a managed security services provider, Cyber Security Team, and other stakeholders.  

• Troubleshoots complex cybersecurity and network problems in collaboration with other Information Systems teams and stakeholders. 

• Ensure compliance with relevant security regulations and standards 

• Follows change management process when designing, implementing, and updating security controls. 

• Acts as the subject matter expert for many topics and technologies in the security domain, while maintaining working knowledge of other technologies supported by the cybersecurity team for cross coverage while on call. 

• Evaluates organizational security needs and establishes standards and best practices accordingly. 

• Provides security advice to other teams and departments throughout Freeman Health System 

• Actively participates and contributes to the planning of the organizational Information Security strategy. 

• Participates in a rotating 24x7 on-call rotation schedule to assure ongoing operations and security for a facility that operates continuously to provide the best possible care to the patients we serve. 

• Mentors and teaches, formally and informally, less experienced Cybersecurity Engineers, Analysts, and Apprentice’s in addition to other IT colleagues and Freeman Health System staff and affiliates on relevant cybersecurity topics.
