We are currently seeking a full time Director of Life Enrichment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate, develop and implement resident-centered activity programs, including community and intergenerational programs.
- Direct (Oversee, supervise) the program of activities, and assign program leadership to qualified individuals. Ensure residents are encouraged to participate in programs and escorting to/from activities.
- Inform residents, families, support staff and interdisciplinary team of the current schedule of planned activities via a monthly calendar. Ensure monthly activity calendar is distributed to residents and posted on designated display boards.
- Coordinate or oversee coordination of special events by a qualified team member.
- Direct (Oversee, supervise) the development and display of theme and holiday decorations throughout the facility.
- Design facility calendars, fliers, posters or newsletters as indicated by the Director.
- Supervise and protect residents within activity programs. Ensure a safe environment for all residents, employees and visitors participating in Health Care Center and Diven House activities.
- Facilitate monthly Resident Council meeting pursuant to facility policies and procedures. Provide information on pertinent problems or suggestions made by residents at council meeting to department heads via a Plan of Action form. Refer the Plan of Action forms to the Director of the Health Care Center, or designee, and the Quality Improvement / Staff Development Coordinator. Ensure that the specific department returns the Plan of Action by the stated deadline. Report the action(s) taken at the next Council meeting.
- Assist in mealtime activities as needed, including escorting residents to the dining room.
- Plan, coordinate and escort residents on community outings. Drive vehicles for resident outings.
- Maintain opportunities for all levels of care within the community to continue socialization and recreation pursuits together, as desired, making appropriate adaptations. Coordinate with other activities departments to consolidate activities.
- Utilize community resources and share them with activities in all levels of care in the facility. Coordinate with other activities departments to broaden activity opportunities for residents.
- Encourage resident self-esteem by visiting and conversing with residents on a regular basis.
- Oversee the residents engaged in scheduled activities to promote the physical, social, and mental well-being of residents by applying experience in activities and knowledge of diagnoses and conditions of residents.
Qualifications
- Current qualified Activity Director or Recreational Therapist who is:
- Licensed or registered either nationally of by the State of Maryland; and
- Eligible for certification as an Activity Director or as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or
- At least two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a resident activities program servicing senior citizens in a health care setting.
- Ability to apply interpersonal skills and capability to relate to a variety of people and personalities. Considerable initiative, judgement, and leadership skills are also required.
- Flexibility regarding workload, assignments, hours and days (i.e. weekends, evenings, and holidays).
- Bachelor’s degree in activities, gerontology or related field, preferred.
- Current CPR certification.
- Current Valid driver’s license and willing to pursue
