Role Overview: What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, the Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting (Chamblee, GA or New York City, NY) will lead our SEC reporting function and own the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, utilizing Workiva. The Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting will work cross-functionally on SEC reporting matters for preparation and review of financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A and relevant disclosure checklists. Additionally, the Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting should have US GAAP and SEC Regs expertise in applying and interpreting technical accounting, reporting and disclosure requirements, as well as a strong understanding of economics and business matters. Direct interaction with executives, senior management, in-house/external legal teams, auditors and tax and other advisors.
Responsibilities
Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Serve as the subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Research and document technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, share-based compensation, and business combinations
- Draft technical accounting memos and position papers
- Review material contracts for accounting implications
- Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and pronouncements
- Manage the SEC reporting calendar and ensure timely execution of all filings
- Oversee XBRL tagging and ensure accuracy and completeness of disclosures
- Coordinate internal and external reviews of SEC filings, including tie-outs and audit support.
- Lead the interim reviews and annual audit processes with the external auditors
- Prepare materials for the quarterly disclosure committee and audit committee meetings
- Work directly with the Investor Relations and Legal teams on a quarterly and annual basis with respect to the drafting and review of press releases, earnings releases, investor letters and related SEC filings
- Support the internal audit team with respect to SOX controls related to the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting functions
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals
- Special projects in support of broader corporate initiatives
Qualifications
What You Bring to the Table: Education & Certification Requirements
We’re looking for someone who has a unique mix of experience, skills, and passion for what we do:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience with recent public accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- An active CPA license
- Proven track record in technical accounting research and writing memos
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX compliance
- Hands on experience with SEC Filings (10-K, 10-Q, S-1, S-4, 8-K etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex accounting matters
- Ability to lead and mentor teams
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Legal, FP&A, Tax, Investor Relations and Human Resources
- Working knowledge of Workiva a must and NetSuite a plus
