Position Description


Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a Policy Principal to join our Decision Maker Education and Engagement team (DMEE). 

The DMEE team works to support state energy decision makers with information and resources about advanced energy technologies and innovations in utility regulation, to help well-informed Public Utility Commissions leverage advanced energy solutions for today’s energy affordability, grid reliability, and load growth challenges and for tomorrow’s energy system. 

The decision maker education and engagement team operates as a resource for commissions by providing educational opportunities through national and regional forums, individualized commissioner education and briefings, and connecting commissioners to experts in the energy space.

Reporting directly to DMEE’s Central States Policy Director, the Policy Principal will assist with individual commissioner education and ongoing support and be responsible for strategizing, planning and implementing regional and national educational forums for commissioners and commission staff. While focused primarily on Central states and commissions, the Policy Principal will also support United’s national work on energy affordability and energy access. 


 The ideal candidate has exceptional project management, relationship building, and interpersonal skills as well as an ability to quickly digest and break down complex energy and regulatory topics. Candidates should also possess an interest in—and working knowledge of—state-level energy policy and utility regulatory issues. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible. Candidates will need to travel to meet with key stakeholders on a regular basis. 



Responsibilities 

  • Support the Policy Director and DMEE team in educating and supporting commissioners, planning regional and national educational forums, and designing and executing state-based strategies for decision-maker education and engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers and a variety of stakeholders including advocacy groups, industry experts, and agency staff
  • Develop and lead education initiatives across a portfolio of Central states, including assessing and creating opportunities for knowledge-building and support
  • Support DMEE’s Engagement team on activities related to the Mid-America Regulatory Conference, including decision-maker meetings, event planning, and conference attendance
  • Conduct in-depth research on regulatory frameworks, energy technology and policy to inform strategic approaches and educational content development
  • Build, organize and manage project management tools and systems and maintain and organize information to contribute to program knowledge management and retention
