Job Responsibilities

This role is responsible for ensuring all machines are set up in a timely and accurate manner. The Setup Technician will provide training and mentor all operators and trainees as needed. This will be a team-oriented position that will require working with other setup technicians to ensure that production schedules are met.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Setup Technician will perform the following on both CNC Lathe AND Swiss-style equipment: 

  • Set up and operate mills, drill presses, lathes and CNC machines
  • Work with supervisor, lead and or planner to ensure that setups are accomplished in a way to meet the production schedule
  • Report problems with quality, processes, equipment, materials, and labor to production lead/supervisor
  • Work closely with support staff such as Technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Supervisor, Materials and Logistics to resolve issues
  • Provide training to operators and trainees
  • Validate parts using verification equipment and fixtures following approved process control procedures
  • Make offsets to manufacture parts to specifications
  • Ensure needed tooling is replaced and/or reported
  • Record production yields and quality confirmations in appropriate daily logs
  • Follow blueprints, work instructions and standard work processes
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machinery
  • Report machine failures, non-conformance and maintenance requests
  • Operate all machinery, tools, and equipment safely
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Lead team-driven activities related to continuous improvement and problem resolution
  • Adhere to housekeeping, safety and quality assurance standards
  • Follow 5S processes as outlined in the work area
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency
  • Perform general shop duties as assigned and assist in other areas as workload requires

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years’ experience
  • Intermediate math skills including ability to convert Imperial to Metric units
  • Lift up to 30 pounds unassisted
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Must be team-oriented and possess good communication skills
  • Ability to work extended hours
  • Flexibility with overtime where heavy workloads occur
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Good analytical skills with great attention to detail
  • Excellent safety, attendance and performance record
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent
  • 6-Sigma certification
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience implementing hands-on training

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration, airborne particles, and machine lubricants and chemicals used in cleaning processes.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
