Description

The Occupational Therapy Department is seeking a secondary instructor to assist the primary instructor in OTP 670-Pediatric Assessments and Interventions for Winter 2025. This is a course that meets in-person. You will be required to be on campus for  instruction on Tuesdays from 2:00-4:00 pm.

The secondary instructor will be responsible for assisting the primary instructor. The expertise of the faculty member will be utilized in meeting course objectives for modules related to course content.

Responsibilities: Provide course instruction, demonstrate, assist and assess Occupational Therapy students during a 2 hour lab on the following topics/skills:
  • Teach and guide students in understanding typical and atypical child development, with a focus on motor, cognitive, and social-emotional milestones. 
  • Instruct and supervise students in administering common pediatric standardized assessments (e.g., PDMS-3, BOT-3, Bayley-3, Sensory Profile, Beery VMI), ensuring proper technique and interpretation.
  • Assist students in developing and analyzing occupation-based treatment plans tailored to pediatric clients, focusing on enhancing engagement in daily activities. 
  • Teach students how to evaluate pediatric feeding issues, including oral motor control, and provide strategies for feeding interventions. 
  • Provide instruction on sensory processing and integration evaluations, including intervention planning for sensory-related difficulties in children. 
  • Facilitate lab sessions with direct interaction with children to model assessment, evaluation, and intervention techniques, including primitive reflex integration and development with infant-based labs.
  • Educate students on the importance of primitive reflexes in child development and provide practical instruction on integration techniques. - Lead lab with infants for this section. 
  • Assess and check off students on their ability to perform pediatric assessments, interventions, and documentation during competency evaluations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy
  2. Active OT licensure.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric occupational therapy.
  4. Strong knowledge of pediatric assessments, intervention techniques, and child development.
  5. Excellent instructional and communication skills, with a passion for working with students.
  6. Ability to effectively manage lab settings and mentor students through hands-on learning.
