We are seeking a highly motivated in-house regulatory attorney to help us deliver that vision.
Job Purpose
National Grid is seeking an in-house regulatory attorney to work in the New York Legal-Regulatory practice group, as part of the General Counsel function. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience as a practicing attorney, demonstrating strong analytical, research, and interpersonal skills, as well as persuasive oral and written communication capabilities. Responsibilities include practicing before the New York State Public Service Commission and advising clients regarding all aspects of state utility regulation in New York, including matters related to electric and gas rate cases, compliance filings, capital investments, safety, distributed generation, interconnections, cybersecurity and data protection, emissions reduction goals, contracting, customer complaints, energy efficiency, grid modernization, and emerging legislative/regulatory requirements. This role will include drafting and filing petitions, testimony, compliance documents, and customer correspondence, as well as representing the business in regulatory proceedings and meetings before the Commission and with stakeholder groups. This position is a full-time, hybrid position.
Key Accountabilities
• Regularly draft, review, and file regulatory documents with the New York State Public Service Commission, including testimony, petitions, and compliance items.
• Independently perform research and legal analysis including legislation and regulation.
• Continuously seek ways to do things better to drive greater efficiencies for the business client.
• Demonstrate the ability to understand the connection between the business and relevant research or information.
• Identify significant corporate risks in business matters; provide legal guidance to the business and constructively challenge risk issues; work with the business to develop appropriate mitigation measures.
• Express commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and support events and/or initiatives of interest throughout the organization
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission in good standing to the New York State Bar (or evidence of initiating process to secure New York State Bar license and subsequent admission to the Bar).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to draft and file legal documents with regulatory agencies or courts.
• Strong sense of teamwork; ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and on multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to the Company’s corporate values including the advancement of inclusion and diversity principles.
• Highly proficient legal research and analytic skills; flexible decision making; initiative; and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to effectively identify complex legal problems and risks and advance commercially reasonable business solutions.
• Willingness to effectively engage senior management on increasingly complex legal decisions and outcomes and work collaboratively with the business.

$175k - $200k a year
