Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Senior Director of Development, Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering, Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement [R0142541]

ROLE of the POSITION

The Senior Director of Development serves as the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering chief development officer, managing the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects. The Senior Director also manages a personal major and principal gift portfolio. The Senior Director will be expected to travel outside of Southern Nevada at least 30% of the time to engage current and prospective donors for UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and UNLV.  

The Senior Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Vice President for Development, and the Dean to advance the mission of the Unit by conceptualizing and implementing strategies to increase financial support from alumni and donors and directing the fundraising strategy of the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. The Senior Director will be responsible for meeting individual and Unit fundraising goals. 

The Senior Director will be responsible for managing a donor portfolio of up to 125 prospects with a philanthropic capacity to give $50,000 or more to UNLV. The Senior Director will initiate and conduct at least 10 - 12 visits or substantive contacts per month for the purpose of determining philanthropic interests, capacity, and readiness. The Senior Director will oversee all fundraising efforts for the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering.

The Senior Director will develop tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies and present written and oral proposals to donors. The Senior Director of Development will solicit gifts directly or in conjunction with the Dean. The Senior Director will serve as the chief fundraising advisor to the Dean, assisting in developing fundraising plans to meet the strategic goals of the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. The position will lead the College’s strategic planning for short-term and long-term fundraising goals and work with external and internal constituents to promote understanding of fundraising priorities.

In addition, the Senior Director of Development will:

1. Oversee all fundraising efforts on behalf of the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering, which may include: the development and implementation of fundraising initiatives that strategically engage and connect alumni, donors, and the community with the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. 

2. Supervise a team of development professionals within the UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering

3. Successfully cultivate and sustain relationships with UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering alumni, donors, faculty, and staff to enhance the fundraising outcomes and donor and alumni engagement of UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering

4. If budget permits, this individual will manage at least one development officer, a student worker, one administrative support position, and any other positions assigned by the Dean to support the advancement efforts of the College. 

The Senior Director will be required to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Regular travel outside of Nevada will be required.
