Position Summary

The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is responsible for implementing and maintaining PG&E’s operational technologies that support Grid and Distribution Control Centers. These platforms include the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), a foundational component of a sustainable energy future and the Grid of Tomorrow.

 

We are seeking accomplished, integrity-driven, and collaborative individuals to join our team as a Senior Operational Technology Engineer.

The Senior Operational Technology Engineer will develop, implement, and support operational technology applications used by Grid and Distribution Control Centers. This role partners with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, works with vendors and developers to deliver application capabilities, and performs testing to confirm solutions meet acceptance criteria. The role also provides technical support for production applications, including root-cause analysis, workaround identification, resolution planning, testing, and reporting. This position will coordinate closely with GOAT Product Owners to align application direction, priorities, and delivery outcomes.

 

The ideal candidate combines knowledge of electric power systems engineering, utility operations, system design, architecture, data flows, and system interfaces. This role requires strong systems-thinking skills and the ability to understand how grid operations, business processes, data, and technology platforms interact. The candidate must be able to translate operational and engineering needs into clear technical requirements. Experience leading technical discussions with software vendors and system integrators is also important, including requirements definition, solution review, testing, and issue resolution. Experience working across engineering, operations, IT, cybersecurity, and vendor organizations is essential.

 

This position offers the opportunity to influence the design and evolution of advanced grid technologies, including SCADA, Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS). Example applications include Load Flow, State Estimation, FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration), Volt/VAR Optimization, Dynamic Protection, Switching Management, Outage Management, Crew Management, and system automation schemes.
