Entry-Level Transmission Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary

This position will report to the Transmission Maintenance Engineering team under the Standards, System Health & Maintenance organization and is based in Oregon City, Oregon. This position supports the transmission maintenance program both when it comes to reviewing results from routine patrols and inspection (FITNES, Ignition Prevention, etc.) to determine criticality and timing of scope of repairs, urgent transmission line maintenance needs day-to-day, supporting public utility commission data requests, FERC compliance, Oregon Department of Energy compliance and scoping/designing/leading yearly planned transmission maintenance jobs on our 230 & 500kV system. The work this role performs is critical to managing system risk, preventing transmission line outages, supporting field crews with urgent needs (storms and unplanned work), and planned maintenance jobs on critical 230 and 500kV lines.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards:

  • Applies engineering education and training in advancing professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards and independently applies knowledge to assignments with occasional guidance on request.
  • Develops applied professional engineering knowledge of engineering solutions and maintenance problems. Investigates, identifies and clearly defines substation problems. Learns the operations of maintenance engineering programs and enhances knowledge of applicable codes and standards.

Engineering Production:

  • Prepares a variety of engineering deliverables as member of professional engineering support/project team.
  • Contributes to maintenance engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice.

Project Coordination:

  • Coordinates with other professional engineers on project team; shares information and professional opinions in executing project tasks.
  • Assists on projects with design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of substation maintenance engineering needs; contributes to capital or operations and maintenance budget and job estimates. Assists senior engineers with substation maintenance engineering projects.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • Expands professional knowledge of latest technology and processes; shares knowledge with other colleagues.
  • Assists with training other engineers and crews on operations and maintenance practices and requirements.


Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred. 

Experience Typically two or fewer years in engineering.
